Kaldis Coffee Story

Some of the best things in this world were discovered by accident: brandy, viagra, chewing gum, and COFFEE!

The story tells of an Ethiopian goat herder, Kaldi, who was particularly close to the animals he tended to. Instead of letting them do as they pleased, he often accompanied them when they went out to pasture.

On one such occasion, Kaldi witnessed something that piqued his interest: the goats began eating berries from a bush nearby. After a while, the goats that fed on these berries became noticeably more energized, running about and playing vigorously (which is strange since goats are tame most of the time). So he had the idea of picking a few of these and brought them back home.

Once home, he ate the berries. He did feel a buzz, but it still wasn’t enough to make him interested in the berries. Instead, it was when disposed of the seeds inside the berries: he threw them into the fire, and in seconds, the place was inundated with the smell of freshly roasted coffee. And what delicious aroma!

We owe Kaldi the discovery of coffee, as well as the popularization of it. In honor of this legendary goat herder, Kaldi’s Coffee is born, a roasting company out of St. Louis, aiming to bring us some of the best tasting coffee money can buy. Here are six of their most popular blends.

Kaldis Coffee Natural High Organic, 12 Ounce

If you want the greatest from both worlds, as a certain someone would say, you can definitely have it. In this case, that would be both medium-dark roast coffee and light roast coffee.

This blend is exactly the same beans- but half are roasted medium-dark, while the other half is a light roast. That way, you can still get the developed umami of coffee such as chocolate and caramel flavor notes while still keeping acidity at very pleasant levels, which only really happens with light roasts.

Kaldis Birds and Bees Coffee, 12 OZ

We’re aware that strong coffee isn’t for everyone. As much as we like to praise espresso, it’s definitely an acquired taste, drinking it black.

That’s why blends like these exist. Very similar in flavor profile to that of the previous blend (700), Birds and Bees feature a delicate balance between acidity and sweetness. It is essentially the same coffee except with a light roast instead of a darker one. Great for those with more sensitive palates.

The name is in honor of the wildlife that Fair Trade Certified coffee protects- from birds to bees and everything in between.

Kaldis Coffee Terra Linda Decaffeinated, 12 Ounce

Decaf is life- and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Coffee isn’t the same as caffeine, and caffeine isn’t essential to make a good coffee. We can have a perfectly good cup of coffee without caffeine, and this blend is the perfect example of that!

Ever so smooth, this coffee is incredibly rich- masterfully holding back acidity and bitterness that would otherwise overwhelm the senses. The result is a cup of coffee that you can thoroughly enjoy without having to add sugar or cream.
